A retaining wall is built in order to restrict the lateral movement of loose sand. This process includes excavating, compressing and reinforcing with cement at times.

When doing a retaining wall, the first step is a site inspection. The purpose and size of the retaining wall will determine if an engineer will be required.

The engineer will need to inspect the type of soil in the area, survey the land [ measurements, depth], take into account the location as well.

After inspection the engineer will determine, the type of blocks to be used, the quantity of the materials which will be required.

The contractor will then provide the customer with a quote there after.
For our retaining wall at Inanda, we had to excavate a level trench for our footing.

There after we started placing geo lock 400 blocks, by level. We hand to ensure the refill soil was compact before starting a new level.
