Bathroom renovations
Time to Renovate Your Bathroom?
It is really a worthwhile spend to save for and to budget towards, to have a beautiful bathroom for you, your family and your visitors.
Before you get started, have a look online what you like, such as at the various tile websites. Our favourites are CTM, Tile Africa and San Marco. From there you can go have a look in stores over your weekends. If your builder is able to, ask him to join you, so he can give helpful advice before you buy and then have to return for not buying correct sanitaryware or correct sizes of shower panels, bath sizes, etc.
What comes into factor, is the size of your bathroom, your plumbing points, what sanityware you are keeping or changing, and what layout and design you have discussed with your builder before you buy.
Once you know this, you have a better idea of budget for materials and budget for your builders labour/plumbing to be done.
The best way for a smooth process is to know your budget and stick to it. Shop around and don’t rush into buying. Take a tape measure with you in store. Once you are ready, you can get your materials, tiles, sanityware delivered to your home or you can bring it home yourself if you have the space and right vehicle for the weight of the tiles, and sanitaryware to comfortably fit. Personally, I think the delivery fee is very worthwhile to pay and should be calculated in on your budget.
Once you have everything ready for the builder on site, the process should take 6-14 working days, depending on existing plumbing, size of bathroom, if all materials is on site, and if nothing is a special order.
To prepare you and your family, plan before how you will manage for that time frame without your bathroom. Cover up for dust with old towels, old sheets, refuse bags before the builder arrives, and if you have someone to help clean your home, explain to them there will be dust for a few days, but it will settle.
Creating a Whatsapp group is great for communication between you and your builder during the process. Ask your questions and make time to meet with your builder during the process if you are unsure. If you both on the same page, your end result will be just what you hoped for.
It is something exciting, it does require some effect, it does require some budgeting, it does require the advice of a professional, but that is why it is all worth it in the end when you have that beautifully renovated to come home to.
Happy renovating!
