After a very restful and fun week end in Cape Town where I did two excellent runs with my cousin Lynn I woke up feeling very happy with life this morning. I met some fantastic people on Saturday night at a pizza and wine night, played with my cousin’s two sons, visited the beach and the Constantia Forest, read my book and generally just had the best time. I love Cape Town even if the rates are too high there
I purposefully waited until just after 8 to get going this morning so I would miss the rush hour traffic only to become grid locked trying to get onto the N1 and leave the city. It took me an hour to cover a short distance from where I had stayed to the start of the N1. I felt so happy that I have a very different life to many and don’t have to deal with traffic every day. I literally couldn’t stand it. I called a friend and asked him why the traffic was so hectic and he said because people in Cape Town start work at 9 am and so effectively I was smack bang in the rush hour traffic. So be warned everyone that does not come from Cape Town – don’t drive around between 8 and 9 unless you have too. In retrospect I should have left at 5 or 6 am but at least I got to have tea in bed
I did the very long drive up to Vredendal (took a wrong turn at Malmsbury also and got a bit lost ) where I met with Marius Visagie who is the new manager at the Vredendal. He is very clued up on the computer and what the website was all about and just as an aside he had the most impressive desk I have ever seen. I have tried to ‘capture’ it in my ‘photo of the day’ but I think I have failed. We had a pretty lengthy meeting but it went well.
I then did another extremely long drive getting to Springbok after 4 pm in the afternoon. I met with manager Cobus and then went through the Springbok Build It stores listing with Schalk Strauss who was a very amiable and kind fellow. Also very on the ball with computers. More pleasing results which was great.
I then struggled to find accommodation as everything was so expensive but I have found a farm cottage about 5 km’s out of town for less than half the price of the places in town and I have had the beautiful ‘music’ of birds chirping, coo-coo’ing and singing as the sun has set in this most beautiful part of our country. What a privilege it is to be here. It’s dark now and when I am finished my work I am going to going to go outside and gaze at the billions of stars that are up in the inky black night sky. Life is good sometimes.
