Post 17 Build it Journey

As I opened my eyes this morning I peered out the window of my bedroom at ‘Howela’ and saw that the hectic wind from the day before had dropped, the sea was calmer, there was a stunning bank of fluffy, white clouds on the horizon and I knew that the weather today would be fine. I made a cup of tea, went out onto the front lawn and sat and watched the high tide waves crash onto the beach just below me, it was good to be alive and staying on the rejuvenated KZN north coast
After a quick breakfast Greg and I drove south towards Kwa Mashu, which was our first port of call for the day. We took the off-ramp off the freeway and then headed inland. It was very uplifting to see all the road works and construction going on to upgrade the roads into Kwa Mashu to make life easier and better for the people who live here. Just around the first corner we were gobsmacked to see construction underway on a super-massive shopping centre, which is going to be about the size of Westville’s Pavillion when finished! I wondered who the owner/developer was and what types of shops and entertainment it would offer. After a few attempts with our google guide and stopping to ask for directions along the neatly kept roads in the area we found the large Kwamashu Build It store at the new and impressive Nyala Shopping centre and I went in to meet Deon Chetty. I showed Deon around our site www.homeimprovement4u.co.za and he enlightened me as to how it was to manage a Build It store.
We then pressed on inland to Inanda Build It a few kilometres along the main road, which was a hive of activity and located the Build It store along the main road on the left hand side. As there was a lot of offloading of materials going on in the parking lot, we both entered the store and I met the friendly Nonkonzo and was also lucky enough to say hello to the owner Mr. Mjadu.
This meeting under my belt, I gunned my chariot back down to the freeway and we headed out to Ballito for my third meeting of the day. We located the Build It store in the new commercial/industrial node near the freeway and were amazed by the sheer size of this warehouse. Greg handed out pamphlets at the door and I approached Linda the assistant manager, as Rinesh the manager was busy in a meeting. Unfortunately the Internet was down so we chatted a bit about the site and I said I would be back later in the week.
Later on in the afternoon we had coffee in Salt Rock with our host, the delightful, charming and kind Pam Essery and she told us more about her family and the various properties, lodges, cottages and apartments that they let in the area. ‘Howela’ sleeps up to 16 people and Pam can be contacted on [email protected] for bookings and they also have a guest lodge with a pool on their family farm and an apartment in Ballito. Howela is seriously stunning.
With the sun going down I decided to challenge myself with a jog on the beach and although exhilarating it was heavy going in the soft sand. After a good shower and a light dinner we decided to call it quits. It’s been a good start to the week.
